Cybertruck price rise of $5,000 bucks the trend; Semi's Nevada plant to be unveiled on 24 Sep

Sources (8)

Two Tesla supply and demand signals. First, Tesla has raised Cybertruck prices by $5,000 even though plant utilisation is below 10% and sales have plunged 48% year on year. The Dual Motor goes from $69,990 to $74,990 (up 7.1%) and the Premium from $79,990 to $84,990 (up 6.2%), while the top-of-the-range Cyberbeast stays at $99,990.

This confirms that the Cybertruck has failed as a stand-alone volume model. Second, Tesla Semi has officially confirmed that its dedicated plant in Sparks, Nevada will be formally unveiled on 24 Sep. Design capacity is 50,000 trucks a year, and volume production began about 5 months ago. Together with the Cybercab launch on 3 Sep, the 24 Sep event makes September a dense window of catalysts.

Key evidence

  • Cybertruck prices were quietly raised on 24 Aug: the Dual Motor AWD from $69,990 to $74,990 (+7.1%) and the Premium AWD from $79,990 to $84,990 (+6.2%). The Cyberbeast is unchanged at $99,990.
  • Cybertruck deliveries for full-year 2025 were only about 20,237, down about 48% year on year. The plant is running at under 10% of capacity (designed for 250,000 a year).
  • Only six months ago Tesla cut the entry model to $59,990 to chase volume. The cheapest version is now back at $74,990, a big premium to the original promise of $39,900, or about $53,000 adjusted for inflation.
  • The price rise applies only in the US (Canada is unchanged). Leaving the Cyberbeast price untouched suggests the top end still has pricing power.
  • Tesla Semi's official X account confirmed on 25 Aug that the new plant in Sparks, Nevada will be formally unveiled on 24 Sep. It is designed to build 50,000 electric heavy trucks a year, and volume production began about 5 months ago.
  • This follows first-hand evidence on 24 Aug of finished Semis piling up at the end of the line. The supply-side story moves on from pictures of stockpiled trucks to a firm unveiling date and the first official capacity figure of 50,000 a year.
  • It comes after a string of Semi demand signals and orders on 19-22 Aug (500 trucks for Einride with Amazon as the end customer, and the push into Europe at IAA)

Catalysts to watch

  • 3 Sep: Cybercab launch
  • 24 Sep: official unveiling ceremony at the Semi plant in Nevada

Risks

  • The Cybertruck's counter-trend price rise may simply pass on higher costs (tariffs and materials) rather than reflect a deliberate strategy
  • An unveiling ceremony is not full production. The 50,000 figure is the design ceiling, and the ramp is still at an early stage.
  • Tesla does not disclose Semi output. The Semi costs about $300,000 per truck, and Tesla itself has warned that the production ramp will be slow.
  • These are incremental operating and supply-side signals, not a turning point for the valuation
