Meta Muse daily insight: Singapore launch (positive), Nvidia partnership and equity raise (mixed)…
Three separate signals. (1) Positive: Muse launched in Singapore on 27 Oct, its fourth market after the US, Canada (8 Sept) and Japan (23 Oct). The first partners are Shopee, Lazada, Grab (GrabMart, Grab Dine Out), Singapore Airlines, Agoda, Klook, Trip.com and ShopBack, and it works with Gmail, Google Calendar and Instagram.

Pricing is a weekly free allowance, or S$22-139 a month for paid plans. The significance: Amazon blocks Muse in the US, yet Agoda (owned by Booking) and Southeast Asia's largest e-commerce and ride-hailing platforms have signed up willingly. Blocking depends on a platform's strength in its local market, not an industry-wide rejection, and in Southeast Asia WhatsApp and Instagram distribution is being traded for merchant partnerships. But features are rolling out in stages, and in a Straits Times test ordering food worked, cancelling an order failed (it tried to log in to a Chope account that does not exist) and it recommended a restaurant that had closed. Reliability is not yet at the point of being trusted to get things done. (2) Mixed: in its 27 Oct press release Nvidia announced an expanded Muse partnership with Meta, jointly optimising training and inference TCO. Meta is expanding its deployment of Vera Rubin and Vera processors and is considering Nvidia's approach to secure deployment and behaviour monitoring of agents. Zuckerberg called Muse 'how we bring personal superintelligence to everyone'. In the SEC 424B5 filings (26 and 28 Oct) and the pricing FWP (27 Oct): (i) a forward sale of 40 million Class A shares, with Meta expecting net proceeds of about $24.9 billion (about $28.7 billion if the over-allotment is exercised in full), settling by 19 Nov 2027; (ii) an offering of 6.50% mandatory convertible preferred stock with net proceeds of about $12.5 billion (about $14.3 billion with the full over-allotment). The use of proceeds is 'general corporate purposes'. Consolidated debt stood at $83.7 billion on 30 Sept. Note that the prospectus says Nvidia, AMD and Broadcom 'expressed interest' in subscribing up to $5 billion in total, which is non-binding, and the '$3 billion Nvidia investment' appears only in Nvidia's own press release, not as a separate item in the prospectus. On the Q3 call management set a target of a '10x or greater improvement in cost efficiency within a year', and this partnership is aimed at that target (positive). But Q3 free cash flow was -$2.12 billion, and the share sale plus convertible preferred show that spending on Muse and superintelligence has outgrown what the core business's cash flow can carry, with shareholders bearing the dilution (negative). (3) Negative: WIRED reported on 27-28 Oct leaked system instructions showing that Muse checks only 3 websites per request and gives top recommendations to well-known stores, just as the holiday shopping season starts. Shopping is Muse's biggest use (Meta says more than 25% of active users use it for shopping, with an average basket above $200). With Meta planning to charge merchants, whether future recommendations favour paying merchants is a trust risk. A personal assistant's core value is being on the user's side, and once that is questioned it is harder to repair than a missing feature. Competitor pricing comparison: Muse is free, OpenAI Dots is 100 a month, Gemini Spark and Claude Duet are 20 a month each and Grok Bot is 30 a month. Being the only mass-market free product is the key to Muse's lead in users, but it also magnifies the cost pressure in the second signal.
Key evidence
- Muse launched in Singapore on 27 Oct (fourth market, after the US, Canada on 8 Sept and Japan on 23 Oct). Sources: Meta about.fb.com, 27 Oct; Straits Times, 28 Oct
- First partners: Shopee, Lazada, Grab (GrabMart, Grab Dine Out), Singapore Airlines, Agoda, Klook, Trip.com and ShopBack. It connects to Gmail, Google Calendar and Instagram
- Pricing: a free weekly allowance, with paid subscriptions at S$22-139 a month
- Weak spots found in the Straits Times test: ordering food worked, cancelling an order failed (it tried to log in to a Chope account that does not exist) and it recommended a restaurant that had closed. Features are rolling out in stages
- Nvidia press release, 27 Oct: an expanded Muse partnership with Meta, jointly optimising training and inference TCO. Meta is expanding its deployment of Vera Rubin and Vera processors and considering Nvidia's approach to secure deployment and behaviour monitoring of agents
- Zuckerberg: 'Muse is how we bring personal superintelligence to everyone'

- SEC 424B5 (26 and 28 Oct) and pricing FWP (27 Oct): a forward sale of 40 million Class A common shares, with Meta expecting net proceeds of about $24.9 billion (about $28.7 billion with the over-allotment), settling by 19 Nov 2027
- SEC 424B5: an offering of 6.50% mandatory convertible preferred stock with net proceeds of about $12.5 billion (about $14.3 billion with the full over-allotment). Use of proceeds: 'general corporate purposes'
- Meta's consolidated debt was $83.7 billion on 30 Sept
- Note: in the prospectus Nvidia, AMD and Broadcom 'expressed interest' in subscribing up to $5 billion in total, which is non-binding. The '$3 billion Nvidia investment' comes only from Nvidia's own press release and is not a separate item in the prospectus
- Management's Q3 call target: a '10x or greater improvement in cost efficiency within a year'
- Meta's Q3 free cash flow: -$2.12 billion
- WIRED, 27-28 Oct: leaked Muse system instructions say to check only 3 websites per request and to put well-known stores first in top recommendations
- Shopping: Meta says more than 25% of active users use Muse for shopping, with an average basket above $200. Meta plans to charge merchants
- WIRED pricing comparison of rivals: Muse is free; OpenAI Dots 100 a month; Google Gemini Spark 20 a month; Anthropic Claude Duet 20 a month; xAI Grok Bot 30 a month
Catalysts to watch
- Whether the lift to merchant sign-ups from WhatsApp and Instagram distribution after Singapore extends to later markets such as Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand
- How far Nvidia Vera Rubin and Vera deployments cut unit inference costs, and whether the '10x in a year' efficiency target is met
- The final dilution from the forward sale of 40 million Class A shares (settling by 19 Nov 2027) and the 6.50% mandatory convertible preferred
- Whether Meta publicly changes its shopping recommendation rules (more comparison sites, and disclosure of whether merchant payments affect ranking)
- Whether the $3 billion Nvidia subscription is listed as a separate item in a later prospectus update (for now it appears only in Nvidia's own press release)
Risks
- Reliability gaps: failing to cancel an order and recommending a closed business mean trust in the assistant 'to get things done' is not yet met
- Dilution from financing: a forward sale of 40 million Class A shares (about $24.9-28.7 billion) and 6.50% mandatory convertible preferred (about $12.5-14.3 billion), with 'general corporate purposes' as the use rather than a specific project, so shareholders bear the cost of Muse and superintelligence spending that outruns core business cash flow
- Cash flow pressure: Q3 free cash flow was -$2.12 billion and consolidated debt was $83.7 billion on 30 Sept
- Inconsistent disclosure on subscriptions: in the prospectus the 'expressed interest' from Nvidia, AMD and Broadcom is non-binding, and the $3 billion figure comes only from Nvidia's own press release
- Trust risk on shopping neutrality: the leaked instructions show only 3 sites checked and well-known merchants favoured, and with the plan to charge merchants, the core value of an assistant 'on the user's side' is being questioned
- Free pricing magnifies inference cost pressure: Muse is the only mass-market free product (the cheapest rival is 20 a month), so its lead in users also magnifies costs
