Three more points from the Q3 call (no funding needed in 2027, risk control becomes a fourth product line, growth at high rates)

Sources (2)

Three points the 27 Oct Q3 call press release left out. (1) CFO Lapointe said: 'Our 2027 guidance does not require any further financing, and assumes none.' CEO Noto said SoFi has reached the scale to 'fund 2027 growth from its own resources'.

Tying about $6.4 billion of 2027 revenue and $1.28 billion of net income to 'no raise' amounts to a public commitment. The self-funding logic: $51.3 billion of deposits (cheaper than warehouse funding), $241 million of net income retained each quarter, and tangible book value per share up 25% year on year. Past share issuance was the shorts' main argument, and next year will test this. (2) The technology platform (formerly Galileo and Technisys) adds a fourth product line, risk control and anti-fraud. Noto's reasoning is that at the scale of 17.1 million fully digital members SoFi is 'under attack all the time', so it will sell the capability it built for itself. It has signed 9 new clients so far in 2026. The CFO expects the technology platform to return to about 25% year-on-year growth in 2027 (Q3 was -24%, or +18% excluding a large client that migrated away). The weak spot: risk control revenue is not disclosed separately, and Noto declined to split out how much of the technology platform comes from SoFi itself, so for now this line rests on talk. (3) Noto said his 'confidence in continued growth in a high-rate environment is the same as in a low-rate one'. The market expected rate cuts this year and rates rose instead. Net interest margin was 6.14% (up 16 bp quarter on quarter), and deposit costs are 145 bp below warehouse funding, so deposits hold up the funding side. This weakens the view that SoFi is a rate-cut trade, as the fundamentals no longer bet on the direction of rates. Insider trading: no new Form 4 since 22 Oct.

Key evidence

  • CFO Chris Lapointe, verbatim: 'Our 2027 guidance does not require any further financing, and assumes none'
  • CEO Anthony Noto: SoFi has reached the scale to 'fund 2027 growth from its own resources'
  • 2027 guidance: about $6.4 billion of revenue and $1.28 billion of net income, tied to 'no raise' as a public commitment
  • Self-funding: $51.3 billion of deposits (a cheaper source of loan funding than warehouse lines), $241 million of net income retained each quarter, and tangible book value per share up 25% year on year
  • The technology platform now has four parts: card issuing and processing, bank core systems and ledger, payments, and risk control and anti-fraud (risk control listed separately for the first time)
  • The case for risk control: with 17.1 million members at fully digital scale, SoFi is 'under attack all the time', so it sells the risk control it built for itself

  • The technology platform has signed 9 new clients so far in 2026. The CFO expects a return to about 25% year-on-year growth in 2027. Q3 was -24%, or +18% excluding a large client that migrated away
  • Risk control revenue is not disclosed separately, and Noto declined to split out SoFi's own share of technology platform revenue
  • Noto, verbatim: 'My confidence in continued growth in a high-rate environment is the same as in a low-rate one'. The market expected rate cuts this year, but rates rose
  • Q3 net interest margin was 6.14% (up 16 bp quarter on quarter), and deposit costs are 145 bp below warehouse funding
  • SEC EDGAR: no new Form 4 insider filings since 22 Oct

Catalysts to watch

  • Each quarter of 2027, whether the 'no raise' commitment holds (any share issue or convertible bond would break it)
  • Whether the technology platform returns to 25% year-on-year growth in each quarter of 2027, and whether risk control revenue and SoFi's own share are disclosed separately
  • Whether net interest margin and deposit costs hold up as rates move

Risks

  • The technology platform line still rests on talk for now, as SoFi declines to disclose its own share or risk control revenue separately
  • The 'no raise' pledge for 2027 is public but not contractual, and SoFi could still be forced to issue shares if loan growth or credit costs overshoot
  • The transcripts come from Motley Fool and KuCoin because SoFi's official transcript has not been released, so some wording may be inexact
  • With the rate-cut trade case weaker, the valuation story depends on continued delivery on the fundamentals, leaving less room for error
