(Hims & Hers Health): full investment analysis

The market prices HIMS as a GLP-1 company in trouble. The real story is a preventive health-management platform (Healthcare 3.0) driven by a data flywheel, with Labs, peptides, YourBio and a missionary CEO. That is a structural mispricing, with the potential to rise 100-fold over 20 years.

CEO profile

Andrew Dudum is a missionary CEO. His father, dismissed by doctors, was diagnosed with stage-4 colon cancer at 38. His personal mission: 'information is not scary, not knowing is.' Labs grew out of personal experience: his father-in-law, a healthy physicist, had two heart attacks caused by undetected elevated Lp(a). Half his family tested positive.

Competitive moat

  • Data flywheel: longitudinal health data (blood tests, medication history, biomarkers) means switching carries the cost of a data reset
  • The only DTC telehealth company with its own peptide manufacturing plant
  • Vertical integration: telehealth, a pharmacy network, YourBio blood draws and AI recommendations
  • Regulatory moat: state-by-state licences and the Novo distribution partnership
  • Scale flywheel: more users bring more pharma partnerships, which open more categories, which bring more users

Key evidence

  • 2024 brought the first full-year GAAP profit, with net income of $126 million.
  • More than 200,000 subscribers. Labs, at $350 a year and covering more than 130 biomarkers, is the new growth engine replacing GLP-1.
  • The YourBio acquisition (at-home blood draws via the TAP microarray) takes the friction out of the Labs loop.
  • Novo Nordisk sued, then withdrew. The two are now partners, and HIMS is an official distributor of Wegovy and Ozempic.
  • HIMS is the only DTC telehealth company with its own peptide manufacturing facility.
  • Subscriber growth in Q4 was only 2% quarter on quarter, the biggest near-term concern.

  • Short interest is 34.64%, having come down from a 46.09% peak after the Novo deal, which leaves potential for a squeeze.
  • ROCE peaked at 18.0% in Q1 2025 and was 6.0% in Q4 2025. The fall reflects a denominator inflated by the $1.1 billion convertible bond, not a deteriorating business.
  • Enterprise value is about $4.5 billion at $19.58 a share, after fully deducting liquid investments.
  • A deal with Eli Lilly is under discussion.
  • In the Stanford Healthcare AI podcast series (11 episodes), industry experts unanimously back the shift from sick care to Healthcare 3.0. HIMS is uniquely positioned for it.

ROCE signal

ROCE peaked at 18.0% in Q1 2025 and fell to 6.0% in Q4 2025, because the $1.1 billion convertible bond inflated the capital-employed denominator. The underlying business is stable, not deteriorating.

Catalysts to watch

  • Q1 earnings: first disclosure of Labs user numbers ⭐⭐⭐
  • Integration of YourBio at-home blood draws ⭐⭐⭐
  • FDA deregulation of Category 2 peptides (BPC-157, TB-500, GHK-Cu) ⭐⭐⭐
  • Eli Lilly partnership ⭐⭐
  • Execution on monthly sales of Novo's Wegovy (target: 100,000 units a month) ⭐⭐
  • Resolution of the DOJ investigation ⭐⭐

Risks

  • Subscriber growth was only 2% quarter on quarter in Q4. Can Labs replace GLP-1 as the growth engine?
  • GLP-1 margin compression: the shift from compounded drugs (70-80% gross margin) to branded-drug distribution (10-20% commission).
  • The DOJ criminal investigation, referred by HHS, is ongoing.
  • A securities class action lawsuit is in progress.
  • Amazon could integrate One Medical, Amazon Pharmacy and Prime.
  • Telehealth competition is increasing (Ro, LifeMD).
