Production Semi gets reworked hardware and an FSD port, FSD goes to Ireland for bilateral talks around the EU…

Sources (3)

Three gradual positives on supply and regulation. (1) The production Semi has had its whole vehicle hardware genuinely redone. The core is the Megamanifold, a unified thermal valve hub that solves cooling for a Class 8 truck, and Tesla confirmed at the same event that FSD is being ported to Semi.

(2) After the EU-wide vote was pushed back to December, Tesla has switched to direct talks country by country, and it confirms it is in talks with the Irish authorities. The Czech Republic became the seventh European market this week to approve supervised FSD. (3) Registrations of self-driving passenger vehicles in Texas have passed 500 (420 Model Y Robotaxis and 126 Cybercabs). The Cybercab count has nearly doubled in a few days, from about 69 on 22 Sep to 126. All of these are signals on the supply, regulatory and registration side, and none is yet delivered.

Key evidence

  • Lars Moravy and Dan Priestley walked through the production Semi on site. An early attempt to fit two sets of Model 3/Y heat pumps proved insufficient, which led to the Megamanifold, a unified thermal valve hub that handles heating and cooling for the cabin air conditioning, battery and motors at once. The truck is described as more efficient, more reliable, cheaper to build and better to drive.
  • At the same event Tesla officially confirmed that it is porting FSD to Semi (still at the 'working on' stage, with no timetable).
  • With the EU-wide FSD vote pushed from 6 Oct to December at the earliest, Tesla has switched to direct talks country by country, and has officially confirmed it is 'working with authorities' in Ireland.
  • The Czech Republic this week became the seventh European market to approve supervised FSD. In Ireland, cumulative deliveries have passed 15,000, new registrations in 2026 exceed 2,729, and a new retail centre will open in north Dublin.
  • As of 26 Sep, Texas had registered 546 self-driving passenger vehicles in total (420 Model Y Robotaxis and 126 Cybercabs). The dedicated Cybercab count jumped from about 69 on 22 Sep to 126 within days.

Catalysts to watch

  • Follow-up Semi delivery ramp and operating data (of Einride's 500-truck order, only about 75 are due in 2026)
  • A timetable for FSD on Semi (currently still 'working on')
  • Whether supervised FSD is approved in Ireland, and whether other EU member states follow
  • Convergence between Texas Cybercab registrations and actual unsupervised passenger operations (crowd-sourced tracking on 23 Sep showed only 8 active on the road in Austin)

Risks

  • The hardware changes to the production Semi are an engineering improvement, and real cost savings and reliability will only be confirmed by operating data after delivery
  • FSD on Semi is still at the 'working on' stage, and an unsupervised version is further off
  • Country-by-country approvals have so far had no visible effect on local sales, so the quality of software monetisation is discounted
  • The negative backdrop is unchanged: a single EU-wide approval is not feasible in the short term
  • Registering a VIN does not mean the car is actually running driverless passenger service (Texas registrations and actual road numbers have long diverged)
  • Cybercab and Robotaxi are still heavily geofenced
